Shown at Museum of Modern Art and Whitney Museum of American Art, New York Simeon Coxe Currently living and working in Fairhope, Alabama. Born in Knoxville, Tenn., raised in New Orleans, La., Simeon Coxe attended public schools in New Orleans. For 5 years, during Elementary and High School years, he attended the John McCrady Art School on Bourbon Street 3 evenings a week. During his teens, Simeon won every City, Parish and School art exhibit in town. At the age of 21 he struck out for the New York art scene of the 60's. In New York, Simeon exhibited frequently in the Village and East Village galleries, and occasionally at an "uptown" establishment, even being included in a "New Talent" show at the Museum of Modern Art, but sales were infrequent. During the late 60's, the art career was interrupted by the much more lucrative Silver Apples music experience, with national tours and recording contracts. In the 70's, Simeon returned to his art, doing conceptual pieces in his new home of Mobile, Alabama. It was during this time that he organized the motorcycle show at the Mobile Museum of Art (then the Fine Arts Museum of the South), and began an exploration of the new medium of Video. The 80's and 90's saw a return to painting. Coxe exhibited several times a year, sometimes traveling hundreds of miles between shows (see exhibition list). Sales included to both private and public collections and led to the move in 1999 to Fairhope, Alabama where he has exhibited extensively. email: simeon@silverapples.com
